TCP/IP

(AKA: TCP-IP, TCPIP, Transmission Control Protocol/Inter Protocol)

TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Inter Protocol) is the Internet suite of networking protocols that allows computers and interconnected networks with similar or different technologies to communicate across the Internet.

TCP/IP has been established as a vital protocol and the universal standard for Internet communication.

FTP, SMTP and HTTP are just a few of the protocols that use TCP/IP to communicate across the Internet.
