Spyware Cookie

(AKA: Third Party Cookie, Tracking Cookie)

Helpful cookies store only pertinent information necessary to make browsing easier and more convenient. These cookies generally expire at the end of a session or after a short time. Most helpful cookies will prompt users to accept them before installing themselves.

A Spyware Cookie is any cookie that is placed on a user's machine to be intrusive, not helpful. Spyware Cookies are not designed to make surfing easier; their sole purpose is to gather data about users for advertising purposes. Spyware Cookies are placed on your machine by Web sites that track your movement from one Web site to another.

Spyware Cookies can track your every click and record all information you enter into non-encrypted online forms. Over time, Spyware Cookies can gather and compile all sorts of personal data about you.
