Hypertext Transfer Protocol

(AKA: HTTP)

Hypertext Transfer Protocol is the standard transmission protocol used to transmit hypertext files across the Internet. Web servers and browsers communicate with each other using Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

When a URL begins with HTTP://, this command narrates to the browser that the hypermedia document requested is Hypertext Transfer Protocol compatible and shall be transmitted in Hypertext Transfer Protocol format.

Hypertext Transfer Protocol has been used as the standard transmission protocol on the World Wide Web since the early 1990s.
