Downloader

A Downloader is a Spyware application whose sole purpose is to enable other Spyware to be installed continually on the user's computer.

Downloaders are not viruses, and as such do not contain any method to replicate by themselves. However, Downloaders may be downloaded by other viruses and/or Trojans to be installed on a user's system.

Many Downloaders are mass-spammed by their creators with the express purpose of luring users into opening them.

Downloaders can also be installed by visiting a malicious Web page, either by clicking on a link, or by a Web site that hosts a scripted exploit and installs the Downloader in a drive-by download without user consent or other interaction.
